Ever set up an event? I hear it is not so straight forward!
Putting together an event is more than throwing a few table cloths on and having pretty lights. Tried and tested! It is about taking into consideration every little detail, change, timeline and having contingency plans along the away for Plan B-Z! You cannot expect to pull it off with minimal imagination or leaving it to the last minute.

Big name venues such as The Durban International Convention Centre who recently hosted the Business Events Africa and The Sandton Convention Centre all know what it’s like to put on a show. A memorable event, no matter how big or small. It is all the same. It is their name on the line. Their happy customers, the experience they give and the memories they help build. But what about the smaller venues, venues like us- Santos Express Train?
Size is not the be all and end all to the perfect wedding or political conference. It’s the relief from stress of having somebody else take care of every little detail, that you can sit back and relax whilst watching the show!
Recently reading Business Events Africa, I came across a very interesting article by Leatitia van Straten– know who that is? No;- I didn’t either.
She went on to talk about key notes of sustainability in events, one of them being: Pre-Event Marketing
Planning an event is made a success by the marketing structure you put behind it. Simply hoping for the best and talking to a few people does not work. There needs to be a presence of your brand and product. Be it Social Media, digital mail, incentives through influencers and so much more. But not just on the build up- throughout and after your event you also need to keep that presence so much so that customers that did not attend kick themselves for not showing.
That is what we strive to do. We put in our efforts throughout all teams to ensure a Class A project delivers a Class A service and experience.
Starting from the bottom with Marketing and Product awareness, through to the table plans and décor finishing up with the experience delivered throughout, we always do our utmost to make it special.
So how do we manage it? How do we do it? Our Functions Manager, Sam. With an eye of detail, a creative imagination and the passion to go with it;
…he is our imaginative creator!
“I try to understand the client first and to get to know them. To build a relationship with them, ensuring their event is a great success. In my line of work, you walk in as a client but you leave as friend. I feel free when I work with the décor and colours. It is an inspiration that everything on the table, how raw it may look on it’s own becomes a masterpiece when finished. I strive to leave a good memory for the guest and a successful experience. Thinking outside the box is, I believe, the most important aspect of my responsibilities.” ~ Sam Kannemeymer
