Let’s face it. Kids nowadays have no clue! Sitting in classrooms everyday, yet leaving with no heightened sense of capability to enjoy their surroundings and nature safely. Math equations & language don’t seem to have the same effect as Wildlife Conservation or Safe Swimming.
It is no wonder that high holiday season arrives, the beaches and streets of Mossel Bay are flooded with tourists, children and families but none seem to be able to grasp the idea of keeping it clean and enjoying it safely. “Bin your Butt”. “Pick up your trash”.
It all seems super simple, yet massively overlooked.
Honestly; annoying as heck.
But for a moment just imagine a world in which the children and the new generations to come, whether from the suburbs or the rural country knew and learnt first hand how to keep our beaches and streets clean? For the ultimate good of wildlife conservation but also an enjoyable time on holiday!?
It is never fun when deciding to take a trip with the kids, the beaches are hectic and parking is non existent but to add the cherry on the cake and you can’t seem to find a spot where there is no wrapper taking up space getting a tan! So what do we do… we make a change… we become the change.
Santos Beach is favored as one of the top 5 beaches in the world, and recently being awarded Blue Flag presence it is a spectacular swimming beach with golden sands and vast mountainous ranges, but like most beaches around the world- groups come to enjoy a braai, a party or a swim and what happens- wrappers!
What if we could stop the extreme yet very real horror of tonnes of trash being washed up on shores worldwide? We can…. you can.
Ever heard the saying, team work makes the dream work? Well my dream is a trash free ocean. For the love of the creatures that live beneath the surface but to also be able to take my future kids to clean beaches without first having to play ‘spot the wrapper’.
Keep Fin Alive. One of the many initiatives focusing on clean oceans and animal protection in our waters is one major initiative leading the way with preservation and awareness.
We too at Santos Train are focusing on Educational Tour Projects. For Schools nationwide to come together and enjoy our views and peaceful vibes in Mosselbay, in a fun and educational way. To gather as many helping hands as possible;
…Many hands make for light work.
Passionate? Me too!
Starting small, we can all do something to help the cause. The mass of trash floating in our oceans and washing up on the shores is causing a major threat to the Ecosystem. the very support system of our planet and home. What was once perfectly balanced is now outweighed by plastic bags, straws and trash.Ending up in the bellies of the aquatics and landing on the streets and the shores.
Our children pick up dirty wrappers. Domestic pets, birds and animals consume them. It is time for a change!
This debris harms physical habitats, transports chemical pollutants, threatens aquatic life, and interferes with human uses of river, marine and coastal environments. Of all trash, plastic trash has the greatest potential to harm the environment, wildlife and humans.
“In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.”
– Baba Dioum, 1968
What can you do to help? Get involved in saying no to plastics. We may not be able to reach zero trash just yet, but we can sure as heck get ourselves and our households to reduce and stop the most harmful type of trash; plastic.
Join in on our educational tour project. Whether you have a small business, or share the same passion- there is always something you can do to support the change.
Generations to come are the generations to change the world we live in today.
- Say no to plastic straws
- Swap out plastic containers for steel or glass jars
- Commit to recycling
- Avoid Plastic Bags
